Application for GMZ2 CRO

The African Malaria Network Trust (AMANET) is a not for profit non-governmental organisation registered as a Trust under Tanzania Law. The goals and objectives of AMANET broadly focus on accelerating development of a malaria vaccine through sponsorship of malaria vaccine trials in Africa.

Call for MSc Studentship

The GMZ2 Consortium is an integrated project for “Fostering research capacity, networking and project management through phase I-IIb clinical trials of candidate malaria vaccine GMZ2” involving seven partners. The partnership of international institutions are working to support further development of GMZ2 (GLURP + MSP3 hybrid) malaria vaccine candidate, which is currently in phase Ib clinical trials in Gabon. The partners are the African Malaria Network Trust (AMANET), Statens Serum Institute (SSI), the Medical Research Unit at Albert Schweitzer Hospital (MRU-ASH) in Gabon, the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratories in The Gambia, the Centre National de Recherche et de Formation sur le Paludisme (CNRFP) in Burkina Faso, Makerere University in Uganda and the University of Tübingen, Germany. The GMZ2 Consortium invites applications for long term training to further strengthen the African trial sites by consolidating their leadership capabilities in implementation of clinical trials. The call is open to applicants from the four African sites in the consortium.

Burkina Faso Site

The Centre National de Recherche et de Formation sur le Paludisme (CNRFP) is part of the Secretariat General of the Burkina Faso Ministry of Health and is one of the leading malaria research institutions in the country.

The mission is to provide technical support for the implementation of the National Malaria Control Program through:

  1. participating in the formulation, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the national malaria control program;

Gabon Site

The Medical Research Unit at Albert Schweitzer Hospital (MRU-ASH) is situated in Lambaréné, a town with approximately 20,000 inhabitants, located in the Moyen Ogooué province of Gabon near the equator in the Central African rain forest. With a population of approximately 50,000 (Lambaréné and surroundings) inhabitants are served by two hospitals in Lambaréné, with approximately 90 % of children treated in the Albert Schweitzer Hospital.

Uganda Site

Makerere University (MAK) is the largest and leading institution of higher learning and research in Uganda. The core facilities of Faculty of Medicine include several teaching auditoria, Sir Albert Cook Library, well equipped research and teaching laboratories, administrative and technical staff offices.

The Gambia Site

Basse Field Station, The Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratories in The Gambia have been involved in research into malaria for nearly 50 years. These studies cover nearly every aspect of the disease: entomology, immunology, hospital based treatment trials, and community based studies with interventions such as insecticide-treated bed nets.
