Considerable
expertise has been created among African malaria researchers
through short-term training workshops. Over 1000 African
scientists and associated personnel have been trained in
aspects relevant to intervention trials such as health
research ethics, GLP, GCP, study design, data management,
molecular biology and immunology. There is also a growing
network of African malaria R&D institutions under the umbrella
of AMANET, offering opportunities for collaborative work and
south-south mentorship. These collaborative efforts and
networking include the Afroimmunoassay, through which six
African institutions are developing standard methods of
evaluating malaria vaccines and also the programme on capacity
strengthening in health research ethics review in Africa. |
