The African Malaria Network Trust is happy to announce the
appointment of Prof. James Aggrey Oloo, MBChB, MMed as Network
Director, effective from 1st February 2007. As
Network Director, Prof. Oloo, will deputize the Managing
Trustee, and spearhead planning and implement AMANET programmes,
projects and various activities such as training, seminars,
scholarships and fellowships, publications and maintaining the
necessary communication and coordination at the Secretariat and
of the Network. He will also be involved in strategic planning
and dissemination of network outputs to the various
stakeholders. The MIM Secretariat at AMANET also falls under
him.
Prior to joining AMANET, Prof. Oloo served at the WHO Africa
Regional Office (WHO-AFRO) in Harare, Zimbabwe as the focal
point in the planning and implementation of programmes and
strategies for strengthening health systems (traditional and
community/Home based) for control and prevention of malaria and
other priority diseases.
Commenting on the appointment, Prof Wen Kilama, AMANET Managing
Trustee said, “We are very delighted to have Prof Oloo for this
position. He brings with him vast experience in Public Health
especially in the control of communicable diseases, biomedical
sciences and clinical trials”
Before joining WHO-AFRO, Prof Oloo was Associate Professor in
Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, at the Faculty of Health
Sciences, Moi University and , Director Kenya Medical Research
Institute (KEMRI), Kisumu (1989 – 1999). Prof Oloo obtained his
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and Masters of
Medicine degrees from the University of Nairobi. He had
additional fellowships on Tropical Medicine and on Clinical
Epidemiology from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK and
University of Newcastle, Australia respectively. He will provide
interpahse between scientific principles of enquiry and public
health policy and practice within AMANET and its partners.
