Information Technology Officer (ITO)

The African Malaria Network Trust (AMANET) is a pan-African non-profit organization whose mission is to promote capacity strengthening, performance and impact of African malaria R & D institutions. The Trust was incorporated in Tanzania on 14th March 2002. Currently AMANET undertakes short and long-term training of African malaria researchers, infrastructure improvement, equipping research institutions, and sponsorship of clinical and field trials of candidate malaria intervention tools. AMANET wishes to recruit on contract terms an Information Technology Officer (ITO) who will be reporting to the Multilateral Initiative on Malaria (MIM) Secretariat Coordinator. The MIM Secretariat will soon be based at the AMANET Secretariat in Dar es Salaam.

Purpose of the Job
The IT Officer shall be responsible for MIM/AMANET Information Communication Technology (ICT), s/he will in particular:

  • Undertake the set-up, development and maintenance of all ICT facilities associated with AMANET, the MIM Secretariat and partner institutions;

  • Oversee purchase, commissioning and installation of new ICT equipment and software and ensure all service and license / maintenance agreements are in place;

  • Maintain, trouble shoot and repair of ICT equipment;

  • Act as webmaster, manage mailing lists and discussion groups;

  • Archive documents and files and perform back up of such;

  • Maintain security of ICT infrastructure and data disaster recovery procedures;

  • Provide IT user and administrative support;

  • Prepare and present ICT information reports;

  • Any other duties as need arises
     

Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should have:

  • At least a good degree in computer science and information technology;

  • Training in Microsoft Certified System Engineering (2003) or Administration;

  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL server installation and basic daily management;

  • Proven knowledge and practical experience (three years minimum) with ICT systems and their potential application in data base, networking and research;

  • Knowledge and experience with web-design and maintenance , including web-based technologies and applications (script, database, graphics and word processing);

  • Familiarity with LAN and WAN protocols and standards;

  • Ability to set and meet objectives on own initiative, committed to self-development and willingness to keep up to date with developments in relevant software and hardware;

  • Excellent command of written and oral English with good communication skills; and

  • Team spirit with good inter-personal skills.

     

Remuneration
The successful candidate will receive an attractive remuneration of not less than USD 1,000 per month commensurate with qualifications and experience.
